The Queen has ruled for longer than any other Monarch in British history and is known for her sense of duty and her devotion to a life of service. To celebrate the occasion of  the Queens Platinum Jubilee, the Parish Council would like to invite parishioners, family and friends to join in our grand community picnic:

The Platinum Picnic at Hearn Field on Friday 3rd June from 11.30am onwards.

What better location?

If you’ve not been before, Hearn Field is our beautiful community space on the river, adjacent to Combe Cellars. There will be parking on the field itself, for your convenience.

Here’s a taster of the fun, games and activities and how you can get involved:

    • Come prepared to kick off the royal celebrations with a toast of your own making
      • If you’d like some inspiration, click here for a classic Pimms recipe plus some variations to ‘Pimms’ it up a bit
    • Lay out your picnic and tuck in. Feel free to bring your own tables, chairs, candelabras, parasols (hopefully not umbrellas) or picnic rugs and cushions
      • If you’d like some inspiration for your picnic, click here for a variety of recipes from Coronation Chicken to Eton Mess
      • The Woodshed, Hearn Fields delightful coffee bar, will also be open and serving delicious freshly brewed coffees, speciality teas and cakes and biscuits
    • We will be creating our own version of a royal pop-up photo booth so come and have your moment on our throne and capture the memory of this special day. Make even more of it and come in your own royal fancy dress or use some of our props
    • There will be the ‘Create your own Crown’ Competition. So how creative will you be? Will you put your Tom Daley knitting or croquet skills to good use? Perhaps you could use foliage and flowers from your garden? Or you could use this template and get giddy with glitter?
    • Design your own Platinum Jubilee badge as a piece of memorabilia for this special occasion. Download this badge template, create your design and bring it with you to the picnic where you can help turn it into your own personalised badge
    • Join in the fun and games. What would a typical British picnic be like without a good old tug-o-war, game of rounders, quoits, sack race or egg and spoon race? So put your competitive head on and start limbering up now
    • As part of the Queen’s Green Canopy campaign, we will be planting a commemorative Platinum Jubilee tree, dedicating it with a poem written especially for the occasion
    • We are creating a Platinum Playlist.
      • If there are any tunes fit for a Queen that you would like to add, please email: julia_evans@mac.com
We kindly request that dogs are kept on leads. Please also note that portable / disposable barbecues are not permitted on Hearn Field. Thank you.

Looking forward to seeing you!
